Business Elite is Delta's intercontinental business class flying from the US to Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Brazil, Chile, and Argentina.

Confusingly, there are four different versions depending on the aircraft size and route.

For the next few years, most people will still encounter the current Business Elite seat, a traditional cradle-style seat with a 60" pitch and recline of 160°. The cabin configuration is such that there are no middle seats.

The second type of seat is Delta's new fully flat bed cabin, which comes in two different formats. Have a look at the picture to the right (slightly above) and the Virgin Atlantic-style herringbone format. This currently only features on Delta's B777-LR aircraft which fly the ultra-long range routes. However, these seats are increasingly beginning to appear on all B777-200s used on transatlantic services. This cabin offers a 1-2-1 layout and a fully flat bed. Click here for more details.

These seats cannot be fitted on B767s as the cabin is too narrow, so a third type of business seat has been developed for these aircraft. On the B767-400ER aircraft fleet these have now been fitted: a fully-flat forward-facing seat in a 1-2-1 configuration. The seat extends to a 77-inch length. For a video showing the B767-400 Business Elite seat click here.

The fourth type of business seat will appear on Delta's B757 fleet which fly some transatlantic routes, particularly to UK regional airports. New cradle seats with a 2-2 layout and a 55-inch pitch will appear from summer 2009.

As if all this isn't confusing enough, Delta's merger with Northwest means travellers will find yet more types of business cabins on Delta-branded flights for the foreseeable future.

I've been flying business class for over thirty years, and Delta's 777LR service from Detroit to Inchon, Korea was outstanding. I love the new seat, and plan to schedule all of my future flights to Asia on this plane. I fly United sometimes, but have now sworn off their old, tired 777's to Asia and South America. I don't know how they get away with charging full... more

Skyteam lounge ¬– pleasant, spacious, plenty of seating and available work stations. A decent coffee & bar etc, nice hot & cold breakfast buffet, which got changed to lunch while I was there. But the Clarins spa wasn’t open for complimentary treatments, because the therapist was “on a course”, I was told. (A welcome touch on return journey was 1 hour at Yotel cabin... more
